VHCA Safety: Street Captain meeting & APD update
Yesterday over 50 people turned out for a meeting of the street captains.
John Wolfinger, VHCA Safety updates us:
“We had a terrific Safety Team Street Captain meeting this morning, and one of the things that was announced was that our evening watch Officer Cooper will be transferred to the new COPS (community oriented policing) unit along with our former Zone 6 Lietuenant Schierbaum.
The Lieutenant will have a city-wide job now, but Officer Cooper will still be with us in this sector which includes beats 601, 602, 603 and 604. Now there will just be more folks who will get to know what an excellent police officer he is. The COPS folks will not be 911 call driven, so they will have time to be proactive instead of reactive - which is great for all of us.”
Our folks were pleased to hear of the new position for our Officer Cooper - I think he will have fun with this work assignment, and even more folks will get to know what a great police officer he is.
Officer Christina Walker really rounded out the program with a great presentation on neighborhood watch and safety tips. She and Lt. Schierbaum make up a great presentation team.
Our graffiti team leader was excited about the graffiti abatement force too - I assume they will be working with the city-wide graffiti task force for a total program to combat this vandalism.
I am really proud of the citizen involvement we have here in VaHi regarding public safety and this morning was a great example of how many folks are dedicated to making this a safer and stronger neighborhood.”

Looking for a new bit of nature to explore close-in?
5 miles from VaHi is a great new mile-long PATH trail, mostly an elevated boardwalk, that winds through forest (in fact, a nature preserve) along and over South Peachtree and Burnt Fork Creeks. The trail connects Mason Mill Park in North Druid Hills with Medlock Park in North Decatur.
Take Decatur Road east past Emory and take the fourth left after Clairmont, Willivee. Just before it makes a 90 degree curve to the right, you’ll see the trail crossing Willivee.

Ever called a company and are connected back and forth between departments and “press 1 for this” and “press 2 for that” hell? This is how you get back at them!
Place a shipping container in front of the call center’s driveway with a phone number on it… and the sweet revenge begins! (No, this has nothing to do with VaHi but your editor thinks it’s the funniest thing he’s seen in a long time and feels compelled to share) In Dutch with English subtitles.
